A coalition of consumer groups is calling for a new code of conduct – governing sales of telecommunications products.
The Fair Communications Sales Coalition made the recommendation at the second day of public hearings – into widespread complaints about misleading and aggressive telecom sales tactics.
The group told the C-R-T-C that it would eventually like Canada to follow Australia’s lead – in establishing a mandatory, national code of conduct – for providing and selling phone, cable, internet and wireless services.
But the Coalition said it may be more practical to start by adding oversight of sales practices – to the responsibilities of the Commission for Complaints for Telecom-television Services – which is currently limited to resolving customer complaints about wireless and television service contracts.
